‘Tis the season for traveling abroad! And documenting your travels for those less fortunate. Rule uno: If you’re in a foreign country this summer, regardless of whether you’re taking classes, doing research, or volunteering at a free needle exchange hotline for troubled transgendered teens, you’d better be blogging about your experiences. Rule dos: Pics or it didn’t happen.
I’m genuinely excited for all of my friends who get to spend part of this year abroad. There’s definitely something to be said for distancing ourselves from everything we know and embarking on new adventures. I’m always amazed when some of my friends tell me they’ve never stepped foot on a plane. You mean to tell me that you’re a twenty-something, well-off, college-educated student and you’ve never left the states!? This conundrum is exacerbated when these friends tell me they have zero desire to travel. I don’t believe you!
Anyway, except for a 10-day stint in Spain at the beginning of July, I’ll be spending the remainder of my summer in Cleveland, reading your blogs.
